Our Bow Hair is the best in the world, in part because we control the whole process - from the animal to the drawing and sorting, to you our customer, in part because we have dedicated ourselves to sourcing the highest quality raw materials in person - and not through an agent; and in part because as musicians ourselves, we require the highest quality bow hair for our own bows. Why shouldn't we expect our customers to also have such high demands?

We have four dressing facilities - one in Argentina, two in China and one in Canada. We purchase our tails at auction in person, and perform quality checks in person at the dressing facilities, as well as here in the US.

How do we do it? Before any order goes out, we open a random bundle of hair, remove the ties at the bottom, and spread it over a white piece of paper. We sit before the hair as illustrated in the picture, and look at each strand. If it meets our 14 item checklist, we allow that batch to be shipped. If it doesn't meet our standards, we reject the lot.

We are musicians. We know the difference in tone and performance between simply mediocre hair and good hair when the bow is pulled across the strings. As musicians, we can feel the difference between a soft hair and a firm one, between a "grabby" hair, and a not-so grabby one. We'll know if the hair burns off a stick after an hour of performance on stage, or if it stays on. We know these things, because we experience them ourselves. Every new batch of hair gets put into a bow and tested by one of us. We can guarantee the quality and performance of our bow hair.

We sell bow hair in bundles approximately 1.1 lbs each; and in hanks, enough for 1 bow. Volume discounts are available.

Manchurian

This bow hair comes from the area formerly known as Manchuria. It is now comprised of Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, Northeast China and Liaoning Province, China. This is the area where most of the animals live and work to this day. Still a primarily agrarian society, the culture respects the animals and treats them well.

Argentinean

This bow hair comes from the Argentine Andes, where it has been gathered, processed and marketed exclusively for TwoTree International. The production processes are carried out by the experienced hands of the beautiful Andes Region local people who, organized in specially trained groups, take out the best of this lands preserving nature. Our contacts there provide the link between the needs of the most exigent international consumers and the local production abilities.

Canadian

We are proud to supply you with Canada's foremost quality unbleached white horse hair. Although this hair is processed for the rehairing of bows of the violin family, it is also well suited for many other purposes.
